Young Cubs

Everyone by now has heard of Dawquan Brown the freshman corner back and River Craycraft the freshman slot receiver. Craycraft in particular is interesting because he was only rated two stars by the “recruiting gurus”. Two stars means maybe he can make it, but certainly he can play for Idaho or Wyoming.
The real purpose of this article is to focus on the depth WSU is building among the second and third teams as well as the number of young players already starting and contributing to the rotations and special teams.
The defensive line is a good example of the young cubs depth. Not only are Pole, Vaeao and Cooper coming back for two more seasons but Robert Barber,Kache Palacio, Lyman Faoliu and Daryl Paulo are getting reps in the rotation up front. Emmitt Su’a Kalio, Daniel Ekuale and Gerald Sterling are all redshirting.
At Linebacker Tana Prichard, Jeremiah Allison Feddie Davey are contributing to special teams while Eric Oertel Jered Byers and lone starter Justin Sagota are the only seniors playing with the group.
Ivan McClellan, a player with huge upside and ability, Peyton Pelluer and Junior Chester Sua are all redshirting. Sua you may remember started as a freshman but now is taking the year off due to injury and the depth at linebacker.
The offensive line also has depth in the second and third units and other than Riley Sorenson, another true freshman who had his redshirt burned, Eduardo Middelton, Denzell Dotson and Sam Flor are all improving day by day. Most of the six freshman O-liners are redshirting.
Finally the secondary. Issac Dotson from Bellevue is now regularily playing in the secondary rotation and although we will graduate Nolan Washington, Anthony Carpenter, Casey Locker and Deone Buchannon. The underclassmen are deep and talented and include besides Brown and Dotson, Alex Jackson, Charleston White and starter Taylor Taliulu a true sophomore. Needless to say the young Cubs are the future of this team and the direction of WSU football is looking up.
